Ferragamo’s creative director Massimiliano Giornetti had a terrific spring outing that struck just the perfect balance between those seemingly opposing fashion forces, using the most precise silhouettes with uncomplicated but luxurious fabrications.
Best in show: Giornetti’s key shape was a tiered prairie-skirted dress with a ruffled front and strap sleeves. What could have looked dated, hippie or mumsy actually shot off the runway into super modern territory thanks to his unusual choice of super crisp menswear cottons in robin’s egg blue and striped knitwear that had a fabulous graphic edge.
Finishing touches: Footwear is Ferragamo’s bread and butter, not to mention the base of their 100-plus year history. This season the brand created fabulous pointed toe shoes with shiny silver block-heeled shoes with straps that lashed up the legs. Best of all however was the jewellery, especially extra large pearl earrings that were suspended from the models’ ears with swinging delicate chains.
